My Christmas StoryBy Rosemary Brown At Christmas each of us got one thing. My brother had ask Noah and I, "Do you want to see what we got for Christmas?" And of course Noah and I said "Yes". Junior was eighteen months older than I and very mischievious. The gifts were suppose to be hidden to surprise us for Christmas. But we looked in the middle chest of drawers and there was a child's gun a ball and a doll. So on Christmas morning we had to pretend to be surprised. Since we didn't have a lot of things we were very happy indeed. That was a very good Christmas for us. At that time I slept on the Window Board which was a little to the right and behind the heating stove in the front room. I liked that because it was warmer than sleeping at the foot of the bed in a cold bedroom. Mom and Pop said if I didn't hurry up and go to sleep that Santa couldn't come and leave us any presents. So I turned my back toward the room and that left me facing the window and I did go to sleep right away. That surprised even me. I guess I couldn't take a chance on Santa not leaving us any presents.
On Christmas morning when we woke up there was a Christmas Tree (decorated) It had come from our school. This was the first Christmas I ever remember having a tree and under it was a lot of wrapped gifts. For me were two pairs of Red Knee Socks a beautiful hood with attached scarf to keep me warm. It was Red and White fleecy material, also a doll and a handkerchief. I was so happy I was about to fly away, I had gotten everything I longed for except the perfume. I just had to tell mother "Mom I got everthing I wanted except a bottle of perfume." I wished I had not said that because she then gave me the perfume that was meant for her. Her reason she said She wanted to make it a totally perfect Chrsitmas for me. I have no idea now what everyone else got I'm sure I must have known back then. "How could I not know that?"
